Security Best Practices

TaxBridge Security Features

TaxBridge incorporates multiple security features to protect your sensitive financial data:

Secure Authentication

QuickBooks OAuth 2.0 authentication ensures secure access without TaxBridge ever handling or storing your login credentials.

Data Encryption

All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256) to protect against unauthorized access.

Secure OAuth

QuickBooks connections use industry-standard OAuth 2.0 without storing QuickBooks credentials.

Audit Logging

Comprehensive activity logs track all data access and changes for security monitoring.

Account Security

Protecting your TaxBridge account is the first step in keeping your financial data secure:

Secure QuickBooks Authentication

Since you access TaxBridge through your QuickBooks account, securing your QuickBooks credentials is essential:

  • Use a strong password for your QuickBooks/Intuit account
  • Enable QuickBooks/Intuit two-factor authentication if available
  • Don't share your QuickBooks login credentials with others
  • Sign out from both TaxBridge and QuickBooks when not in use
TaxBridge uses OAuth to connect with QuickBooks, which means we never see or store your QuickBooks password.
Review App Authorizations

Regularly review and manage which applications have access to your QuickBooks data:

  1. Sign in to your Intuit/QuickBooks Account
  2. Navigate to Account Settings > Security
  3. Review the Apps connected to your account
  4. Remove any applications you no longer use or don't recognize
Regularly reviewing app connections helps ensure only authorized applications can access your financial data.
Monitor Account Activity

Regularly check your account activity to detect unauthorized access:

  1. Go to your TaxBridge Dashboard
  2. Select the Activity Log section
  3. Review recent synchronizations and actions
  4. Report any suspicious activity immediately

Data Security

Protect the financial data you store and process through TaxBridge:

Manage Export Files Securely

When you export tax data from TaxBridge:

  • Save files to a secure location on your device
  • Consider encrypting files with sensitive financial information
  • Delete export files after you've imported them into your tax software
  • Never share export files via unsecured email
Secure Your Device

Since you access TaxBridge from your device, keeping it secure is essential:

  • Keep your operating system and browser up to date
  • Use antivirus/anti-malware software and keep it updated
  • Password-protect your computer and mobile devices
  • Don't access TaxBridge on public or shared computers
  • Enable device encryption if available
Be Cautious with Connections

When connecting your QuickBooks account:

  • Only connect to TaxBridge from secure, trusted networks
  • Avoid using public Wi-Fi for financial activities
  • If you must use public Wi-Fi, use a VPN (Virtual Private Network)
  • Disconnect unused QuickBooks integrations

Phishing and Social Engineering Awareness

Be aware of common tactics used to steal financial information:

Recognize Phishing Attempts

TaxBridge will never:

  • Email you asking for your password or financial information
  • Send unexpected attachments
  • Ask you to download software from links in emails
  • Create urgency to update account information via email
If you receive a suspicious communication claiming to be from TaxBridge, do not click any links or provide any information. Forward the email to [email protected].

Security Incident Response

If you suspect your account has been compromised:

  1. Change your QuickBooks/Intuit password immediately
  2. Enable QuickBooks/Intuit two-factor authentication if not already enabled
  3. Review and revoke TaxBridge access in your QuickBooks connected apps
  4. Contact TaxBridge support at [email protected]
  5. Monitor your financial accounts for any unauthorized activity
  6. Reconnect TaxBridge once your QuickBooks account is secured
